Where Do I Go From Here?
Alrighty, so we are two week in to the new year. The holiday festivity hangover is just about over and by now I've usually lined up some pretty decent long term goals to accomplish over the next 12 months. And yet, I've got nothing...
I find myself conflicted at the moment, torn by different aspects of my life (running and basketball). Here's what's on the agenda for the year ahead so far. In 2017, I plan to play in 4 maybe 5 asian basketball tournaments. I haven't played basketball this often in over 5 years! I will be playing with the notorious Public Enemy for two tournaments (including one in San Diego), the up and coming TCBA (My Chinese Team) for two tournaments (Austin and Wisconsin), and then one with my friends from back home in a local Wichita tournament. To make things more crazy, all of these tournaments are scheduled before June with Wisconsin, site of this year's Chinese Nationals, capping things off over Memorial Day weekend.
In the middle of all this basketball, I'll be running in the Austin, Texas Marathon on February 19. This will be the first marathon in nearly 5 years. I thought this would be a good way to kick start my venture in to triathlon training, but to be frank I haven't touched a pool in over 3 months. I still don't have a bike! I've always had this dream of completing an iron man triathlon. However, I'm not sure I want it for the right reasons. I'll be honest, I want to do it in part because I don't know anyone in my immediate circle who has even come close (with exception to long time family friend Chris Tran, who kills it by completing a few half ironmans every year it seems). I also want to do it because it seems like a natural progression to the next level of my endurance fitness. Marathons no longer appeal to me the way they did at the beginning of my running life. I want to see how far my fitness can take me, how much my will can endure. I'm just not sure triathlons are right for me.
So in summary, I've got a lot of basketball ahead of me, and a marathon to complete while figuring out where to take my endurance fitness going forward. I'm still trying to map out my fitness goals for the year, but I know one thing for sure, this year requires me to finally get a new pair of basketball shoes. Out with the old Bruce Lee's, hello to the all white Kobe 11s. By the way, I'm open to any suggestions for fitness goals this year. Shoot me a comment below!
